Bahiya Movement’s

Organizational MISSION:

We are a community where dancers are loved for their different expressions of body, gender, race, and culture. We provide the space and resources to grow their art and its impact on the world through accessible dance training, residencies, and showcases.

Organizational vision:

We are a community that is creating a world where people of all bodies and genders are able to experience joy and explore their roots through dance - we do this by building an artistic home for folks who have traditionally been othered by the dance community.

Organizational values:

Authenticity in Art: We create our best work when we are committed to honoring our own values, roots, and traditions, letting our true selves shine through.

Community and Safety: We provide a safe space where people can be free to be themselves and come as they are, especially those who have been historically excluded by dance.

Trust Yourself and the Universe: Love yourself first, trusting the universe and embracing your fears so you can be open to learning and experiencing new things.

Collaboration: We share in the joys and labors of co-creation, encouraging all to contribute creatively and physically to our programs and productions.

Mutual Support: We offer peer-based guidance and support, exchanging knowledge and skills through mentorship and friendship.

Sustainability: We believe our work needs to be sustainable in all ways, including financially, and work towards paying our artists whenever possible.
